The function of the cooker hood is relatively simple and quite commonly known. Its main task is to eliminate unpleasant odors in the kitchen and ventilate the room. This is the primary task of this device. Hoods, on the other hand, can implement them by removing warm, often moist and odor-laden air by means of ventilation, or by filtering it through carbon filters.

Not every kitchen and not every hood can be connected to ventilation. For example, a retro hood significantly loses its aesthetic value when it is connected to ventilation. In such hoods, mainly carbon filters are installed. We will try to introduce you to the subject of carbon filters and their possibilities, as well as how and when to use them.

The vast majority of cooker hoods available on the market are hoods in which you can easily install a carbon filter. Often it is also recommended to use it together with the removal of unpleasant odors through ventilation. Also, both a modern hood and a retro hood should have the option of installing carbon filters in them. Before buying, it is worth checking and always installing such a filter.

The carbon filter is necessary in every hood that does not have a ventilation connection, and it is certainly advantageous to have it also in those hoods that have a ventilation connection. The use of such filters, on the other hand, is necessary in every kitchen that operates in the professional catering industry, because the amount of harmful vapors in such a place is simply huge.

Although the carbon filter is extremely effective and efficient, it does not have as much capacity as a classic ventilation duct. Therefore, its regular replacement, cleaning and maintenance is essential to keep the retro hood in good condition and fully functional.

The carbon filter should be replaced regularly - every few weeks. However, there is no specific time frame for its replacement and it only depends on the intensity of use of the kitchen. It is worth checking the filter regularly and check how often it ceases to be effective over time. Then it should be replaced or in case of light soiling, simply cleaned.

Cooker hoods with carbon filters must be cleaned regularly. This means that such a hood should be cleaned at least once a month, both inside and outside. It is worth washing the filter cover thoroughly, so that the newly inserted filter does not get dirty immediately, and that it can filter effectively.

Maintenance and cleaning should be based on:

precise control of the carbon filter,
cleaning the chamber with the carbon filter,
possible filter replacement,
washing both the inner and outer filter housing,
checking the condition of the ventilation inlet.

Such inspection and maintenance, along with the use of carbon filters and their regular replacement, eliminates unpleasant odors and hot air, regardless of the intensity of use of the kitchen.
